Don’t you dare revise today

To my year 11 child

Don’t you dare revise today.

Today is the day you lazily, lie in late and eat lots of chocolate for brunch. You’ve said you don’t want Easter eggs but secretly you are so pleased that you’ve a small stash and a tenner from Nan.

Don’t you dare pick up a school book. Go out into the beautiful sunshine and remind yourself that you have the whole of your life ahead of you; you can do anything and be anyone, time is on your side. You’ve no idea how important time becomes as you progress through the decades of your life.

Don’t you dare think of your GCSEs today. They are simply a stepping stone to the next stage of your life. They are not the ‘be all and end all’ but a bridge to carry you to the place you are going to next. Believe me nobody is languishing in a job they despise because they ‘failed’ RE when they were 16.

Don’t you dare do any revision today. Today is the day for family and friends. Today is Easter Sunday and it is for you to enjoy life and those you value the most. You can resit any exam, take any test infinite number of times. You can’t redo today, with the people in it, an infinite number of times, that I do know.

Don’t worry about the ‘what ifs…’ Enjoy today safe in the knowledge that everything works out exactly as it should and you have nothing to worry about. Remember, it will be alright in the end, it always is and if it’s not alright, it’s not the end.

Have a glorious day – rest, relax and eat chocolate for breakfast and know that I am beyond proud of you whatever your grades are this summer because you are my child and I love you more that any grade or level can quantify.

❤️
